Free Entitlement Funding for 3-4 Year olds

What is Free Entitlement Funding?

The term after your child reaches the age of 3 they are entitled to receive a free part time nursery education place.

What will Free Entitlement Funding fund be used for?

It will fund up to a maximum of 5 sessions per week, each session lasting 3 hours for 38 weeks of the year.  You may vary your sessions anywhere between 1 and 5, but this must be finalised at the beginning of each term or at the latest by headcount day.

Headcount day is an official date set by local council when we have to officially declare the children on our register who will receive the FEF for the term we are in.

When can my child start receiving the funding?

Your child(ren) can start the term after their 3rd birthday. For example if your child is 3 in the January they can start in the summer term which starts in April. Once started your child can continue until they start full time school.

What are the benefits for my child?

It is an exciting time for children as they learn through play based activities to become more independent and develop their own identity. Research has shown it helps your child(ren) acquire the skills they need to make good progress at school.

Do I have to apply for funding?

No, we will do this for you, each term you will be asked to sign a form to say that you are not claiming more than 5 sessions per week in total.

You will also be asked to show evidence of your child's date of birth, e.g. birth certificate.
